May : The Merry Month
It was the Mother's Day that brought with it a blender that can make fresh hot soup. There was a hike to Stonyman Summit and when my son bought me flowers. There was a bluebird, a luna wing, a hawk feather, the first bass of the season, and 17 year cidadas that came 4 years too early. There was crops in the garden and the locust trees that flung their blooms to the earth and scented the air otherworldly. There was the wonder of Wonder, and a new recipes destined to become old favorites. But most of all, there was the planning of a 12th birthday party!!!
This was the way of it Let the story fires be lighted Let our circle be strong and full of medicine - Robbie Robertson
Wherein we had a bonfire and ate S'more as the Pink Full Moon rose in the sky and Melissa flung fire. There was a sleepover with old pals, and watching their favorite show Junior Chef which inspired them to do some cooking of their own. There was a sunset on the lake and the first swim of the season at cub run and a strange visitor to the hummingbird feeder. And a trip to the bay to look for fossilized shark teeth. It's the month I got bursitis in my right hip and a frozen left shoulder.
Wherein we drove to Florida to visit our beloved uncle. We stopped in Savannah on the way down to see Live Oaks Ave and enjoy a vegetarian reuben at Green Truck. We arrived in Florida to huge, amber full moon. In St. Augustine we visited the Castillo de San Marcos, met some gators, found a live sand dollar and released it back into the ocean. Found an alligator tooth on the beach and had a baptism by a dolphin named Tomo. On the way back we stopped in Charleston to have Easter Brunch at Hominy Grill...fried green tomatoes and grits...we visited a 500+ year old live Oak called Angel Oak, and drove over the Ravenel in the rain.
Stopped to fuel up and Nowhere Man had a run in with a bear...
Oh Savannah, you are so magical...
Morning cuppa 'fore hittin' the road...
Thursday night moon...
Breakfast at City Coffee...
The day we saw the gators and...
a tree full of Egrets...
A funky hotel sign near a magic beach...
Next stop Charleston..
A snooze in Myrtle Beach granted us a rain free scenic route homeward...
As we approached home, the clouds were so low you could practically touch them.

"To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty...
To leave the world a bit better,
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch
or a redeemed social condition."
