The Lovers, The Dreamers And Me

News of it traveled quickly through the neighborhood and we all ran outside to see it...

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard
and answered when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing
and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me. - Jason Mraz

Life Class: Walking the World in Wonder

"Mama, I don't want to go to school anymore."
"Oh, do you want to homeschool?"
"No....I want to take Oprah's Lifeclass!"

Reading his New favorite book in his fort under the holly tree. We used a tree trunk for a table and hung a lantern from a branch. It's the favored spot of the neighborhood as it is nearly hidden from grown-ups.

Unreluctant Soul: Blackrock Birthday Weekend

LIFE by Henry van Dyke (excerpt from The Three Best Things)

Let me but live my life from year to year,
With forward face and unreluctant soul;
Not hurrying to, nor turning from, the goal;
Not mourning for the things that disappear
In the dim past, nor holding back in fear
From what the future veils; but wi
th a whole
And happy heart, that pays its toll
To Youth and Age, and travels on with cheer.

On Sunday I celebrated my 48th ride around the sun. It was a spectacular birthday weekend. We climbed Blackrock Mountain and ate our lunch and birthday cupcakes on the summit. There were gifties wrapped in hand drawn wrapping paper. There were voicemail serenades, emails, texts and messages from as far away as Holland. There was this deep gratitude for everything and everyone...the kind of thankfulness that leaves you speechless and smiling with eyes closed.

On Saturday we went pumpkin picking at our favorite farm. Our boy sporting a new (and chocolaty) grin after 2 tooth fairy flybys last week.

Ballad of the Lost Tooth

I barely had a sip of my coffee when I heard the patter of his feet on the wood floor. The tooth fairy arrived, of course, and he awoke at dawn to count his loot. I took a gulp, glad that he slept through the night at least. The day before he woke me at 3AM to ask me if I ever caught a Bluegill.

Splendid Silent Sun: Apple Pickin' 2011

"Give me the splendid silent sun
with all his beams full-dazzling,
Give me juicy autumnal fruit
ripe and red from the orchard...
Give me serene-moving animals, teaching content;
Give me nights perfectly quiet,
and I looking up at the stars..." - Walt Whitman
