Wherein I took a mini road trip with a dear one whom I've know for some 27 yrs. He flew into Charlottesville and I took him to one of my favorite trees. We drove into town and shared lunch outside at Botanical (the mushroom chix sandwich was a delight, as was Lance, our server). We walked a bit, grabbed ice cream, then drove to Grayson Highlands where we saw a wild pony - a mare. We stopped at Buzzard Rock overlook, and I found several species of moss and a blanket so thick that I had to stand barefoot upon it. We headed to Boone where a grey fox ran across the road in front of us. We hiked Grandfather Mountain (I haven't been there since I was kid, with my dad and uncle). We went to Price Lake to watch the sunset. We hiked Beacon Heights (my fave). Had a great Tempeh Reuben at Wildcraft Eatery and basked in beautiful music of Billy Strings. Much catching up, and much laughter. For those 4 days, I felt safe and loved. Another magical side quest in the offing.
