Meaningful Mother's Day Gifts (& Giveaway)
beauty of heaven
where I fly so easily, so welcome, yes,
and this is why I have been sent, to teach this to your heart.
~ Mary Oliver
It's been a while since I've given my two cents about gift picks. Please indulge me for a moment, then indulge your mother, indulge yourself...
These two books, "Momma Zen" and "Hand Wash Cold" by Karen Maezen Miller have changed my life in that they didn't change my life, but rather taught me to live the life I already have which, after all, is the greatest gift I've been given.
Buy it, read it, teach it to your heart, then unwrap the gift of your life!
If adornment is what you are seeking, I offer a custom mother's nest necklace to honor your divine nature, mother. Mine has one turquoise egg to represent my son. Please visit my etsy shop for details or try your luck as I'm giving one away. Details at the end of this post.

That necklace is so beautiful- and perfect given how many birds eggs I've seen during this pregnancy! Those are easily two of my favorite books too.

Those little nests are so lovely!
The necklaces are so beautiful! Whoever wins is a lucky lady :-)!
Thank you for thsi lovely piece. I have just discovered Mary Oliver. I adore her poetry and the piece you quote is exquisite. I also love the necklaces. The one with the robin's eggs is especially beautiful... it speaks of spring.

those books are now for sure in my reading list!
i LOVE your necklaces! i will spread the word in facebook.

These two books from Karen are on my wish-list.
And these necklaces are so beautiful! I love how they symbolize motherhood. Thank you for the chance.
I've just found your blog and really love it! So much inspiration here. Love the words on your header, so true.
Have a wonderful week, Wendy!
Such a clever lady you are...they are lovely.
I've only recently found Karen's blog, and it was so nice to find a link to yours today! I'm enjoying reading about your adventures with your son.
followed the link from Karen's blog - what beautiful necklaces! love the Mary Oliver quote as well :)
I just discovered your blog right now and it's wonderful! Not only do I like the content of your blog, I appreciate how many links you have to other blogs. Some I have read, but now I have lots of others to explore.
"Hand Wash Cold" is one of the most amazing books I've ever read. I give copies of them to people regularly. And Mary Oliver is another favorite. Love, love!
I too followed the link from KMM's blog. Her books have been huge gifts in my life as well. Your jewelry is beautiful - I'm off to see more at your etsy shop!

WOW, I *love love love* these necklaces! And m daughter will too! I also *love* the elton john quote at the top of your blog!
I've read both books and am better for it! I even got to spend a day with Karen in Boston and it was so uplifting. The necklaces are beautiful. "Don't waste yourself in rejection, nor bark against the bad, but chant the beauty of the good."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I missed Karen in D.C. Saturday because I was home in Richmond, in a sanctuary with over 600 other souls listening to Mary Oliver read her poems to us.
Then Karen leads me to your blog, and there are Oliver's words . . .
I too have one son in my nest.
I have added those two books to my bucketlist and will bump them to the top.
I have 2 very good things Wendy and Shauna.
I have 6 glorious things Gavin, Joey, Hunter, Connor, Teighan and Christa.
God bless and honor you today,
Namaste
Love the necklace and love Karen's books too!
Beautiful. Something good to tell? I'm currently loving my community and our strong bond and resolve to help one another in time of disaster (NE Alabama). That is also beautiful.
What a gorgeous idea for jewelry. Instant heirloom!
Wendy, saw your birds' nest pendants on Karen's Facebook share. I really like your design and I think they are under priced.....just saying.
I intend to browse your site a bit...perhaps it will serve as a kick in the buttock to get into my studio and start working .... I have promises to keep and designs to execute.
O.
I wish I could leave an image here instead of words. If I could, I'd send you a photo of my back, which is tattooed with a nest with two eggs and the words: LOVE MAKES US STRONG. It's my reminder to the role of my children in my life; the way they both try me and yet help me to grow exponentially, a lesson echoed again and again in Karen's writing. YOu can see the indelible image here: http://aurevoirgoodbyesolong.wordpress.com/2009/06/26/indelible/
The necklaces are beautiful! The most appropriate Mom's Day gifts I have seen. Something good is that Star Wars day makes people post really silly things on the Internet. Something good to know is that sometimes you have to look up on the wall at the coffee shop to find an outlet.
Was eyeing those necklaces of yours earlier in the week, quite pretty! Also linked a blog post to your 9/11 journal earlier this week. Thanks for the opportunity!
Absolutely beautiful work - I love your necklaces. And enlightening reading recommendations.
Beautiful necklaces. Inspiring, yet grounding. I have a one and only son as well. His favorite color is blue.
I have read both books and refer to them often. I met Karen (Maezen) last year at a Mother's Plunge retreat -- A wonderful & much needed experience. Found your blog through her.
Thank you.
These are so lovely! They'd make a great gift for a grandmother, too, or anyone with precious little people in her life.
these are so lovely and SUCH a unique idea. I have sent this page to all of my mother friends!!
Love the necklaces and your books..
I love the necklaces and your books..
wendy, i just stumbled upon your Mighty Girl site the other day and it lead me here to your blog. You are such an inspiration! i've been wandering for weeks now in this; something has got to change - i need to start living my dream today but how; kind of state of mind. and then i am here and it is so comforting and inspiring to see the work you do and read your encouraging, brave, truth. it gave me comfort that i am headed in the right direction. and i just bought Momma Zen the other day! i love how connected we all truly are. thank you!!!
Well, two of my favorite books, one of my favorite poets and one of my favorite creatures, birds. My heart needed a little dose of this just now, a reminder to appreciate, to be present. Thank you.
This is truly lovely. Both the bird's nest, the truth in how Karen's books help us find the life we already have, and frankly... how both of those things fit together so perfectly. Thank you.
i think i will indulge myself in these books, have been wanting momma zen since you first posted about it.
and i hope you still have your necklaces available when my sis is due with #2 in september....
Her books were the perfect things at each point in my mothering journey. Well read and passed along many times over. Love that.
And what is good? Sunshine and 67ยบ tomorrow. Can't wait!
Your creations are beautiful! What a blessing to have talent and be able to share it with the world!
