Meaningful Mother's Day Gifts (& Giveaway)

I am both of the earth and I am of the inexplicable
beauty of heaven
where I fly so easily, so welcome, yes,
and this is why I have been sent, to teach this to your heart.

~ Mary Oliver

It's been a while since I've given my two cents about gift picks. Please indulge me for a moment, then indulge your mother, indulge yourself...

These two books, "Momma Zen" and "Hand Wash Cold" by Karen Maezen Miller have changed my life in that they didn't change my life, but rather taught me to live the life I already have which, after all, is the greatest gift I've been given.

Buy it, read it, teach it to your heart, then unwrap the gift of your life!

If adornment is what you are seeking, I offer a custom mother's nest necklace to honor your divine nature, mother. Mine has one turquoise egg to represent my son. Please visit my etsy shop for details or try your luck as I'm giving one away. Details at the end of this post.

In honor of Mother's Day, I will be giving away a custom nest necklace to one lucky reader. Just leave a comment here, tell me something good!

Winner will be chosen by random generator on Friday morning, May 6th.

Happy Mother's Day!

That necklace is so beautiful- and perfect given how many birds eggs I've seen during this pregnancy! Those are easily two of my favorite books too.

I've read both books and am better for it! I even got to spend a day with Karen in Boston and it was so uplifting. The necklaces are beautiful. "Don't waste yourself in rejection, nor bark against the bad, but chant the beauty of the good."

I missed Karen in D.C. Saturday because I was home in Richmond, in a sanctuary with over 600 other souls listening to Mary Oliver read her poems to us.

Then Karen leads me to your blog, and there are Oliver's words . . .

I too have one son in my nest.

Beautiful. Something good to tell? I'm currently loving my community and our strong bond and resolve to help one another in time of disaster (NE Alabama). That is also beautiful.

Wendy, saw your birds' nest pendants on Karen's Facebook share. I really like your design and I think they are under priced.....just saying.

I intend to browse your site a bit...perhaps it will serve as a kick in the buttock to get into my studio and start working .... I have promises to keep and designs to execute.

I wish I could leave an image here instead of words. If I could, I'd send you a photo of my back, which is tattooed with a nest with two eggs and the words: LOVE MAKES US STRONG. It's my reminder to the role of my children in my life; the way they both try me and yet help me to grow exponentially, a lesson echoed again and again in Karen's writing. YOu can see the indelible image here: http://aurevoirgoodbyesolong.wordpress.com/2009/06/26/indelible/

The necklaces are beautiful! The most appropriate Mom's Day gifts I have seen. Something good is that Star Wars day makes people post really silly things on the Internet. Something good to know is that sometimes you have to look up on the wall at the coffee shop to find an outlet.

Beautiful necklaces. Inspiring, yet grounding. I have a one and only son as well. His favorite color is blue.

I have read both books and refer to them often. I met Karen (Maezen) last year at a Mother's Plunge retreat -- A wonderful & much needed experience. Found your blog through her.

Thank you.

Well, two of my favorite books, one of my favorite poets and one of my favorite creatures, birds. My heart needed a little dose of this just now, a reminder to appreciate, to be present. Thank you.

This is truly lovely. Both the bird's nest, the truth in how Karen's books help us find the life we already have, and frankly... how both of those things fit together so perfectly. Thank you.
