From the Heart

The Sunday before last we went to a Parenting From Your Heart workshop a sponsored by CNVC at the Washington Ethical Society. Satch spent the afternoon with his friend, R and was very excited about it. It was the first time ever he was in anyone else's care. When we returned he was happy to see us, but wasn't ready to leave.

The workshop was very insightful. Inessa and Bob spoke about using NVC as a parenting tool and demonstrated how to apply it with various role playing exercises. My hope is to get away from using "Time Out" even though we only use as a last resource.

i got a book i found from soulemama's blog....respectful parents, respectful child...i liked the idea of nvc....but i really NEEDED more examples in order to put it into practice. We don't believe the time out really is effective...and like you I've almost stopped it altogether but yeah what are you left with. i bet there are examples of nvc on their website...have to check that out. Would LOVE LVOE to attend a workshop like that.

I often find it is both informational and effective to simply say, "Mommy's head is about to explode." It's quite useful for all involved, because no one, absolutely no one, wants my head to explode.
