Solstice Celebration

"This Shortest Day,
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
They carol, feast, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends,
And hope for peace.
And now so do we, here, now,
This year and every year"- Susan Cooper

We've been wanting to host an annual holiday party for some time, but couldn't quite sort out the deets. We have friends of different cultures, religions, some do not celebrate Xmas. We wanted a party that would feel welcoming to all so we decided to celebrate the winter solstice. We figure the shortest day of the year is worth celebrating because afterwards the days just keep getting lighter (longer).

Satch suggested that we invite "everyone" and so we did. And "everyone" responded with a yes! This will ensure some creative seating arrangements as we only had 4 dining room chairs to start and two of them are broken. Still, there is the staircase and the floor and we may have to get some advice from Shelley.

I'm making a crock of vegetarian chili and some mini cornbread muffins. Satch asked for acorn shaped brownies for dessert and popcorn snowballs. There will be birdseed ornaments for the wees to hang on the trees outside. And under the tree are 9 marker/pencil rolls that I sewed for all the liliputians.

Have a good weekend, everyone! See you Monday.

Sounds fun! I once went to a party where the seating was mostly hay bales. Maybe an idea?

Coolers also work well.

thanks everyone. and meg, we have our good days and our not so good days.

yesterday at a holiday party, he told our teacher that she was fat; he invited a new friend to join us for lunch and then after eating a bit of pizza, he started slamming the swinging door to the cafe, i assumed that lunch was officially over and got up to leave, so he laid down on the floor of the pizza joint yelling and refusing to put on his coat (it was both cold and raining). of course, all eyes were on us as the scene unfolded so i smiled and said, "sorry folks, he's usually quite charming" and when i got home i honestly couldn't wait for nap time just so i could regroup. thankfully, he fell asleep beside me rather quickly and i tiptoed down to the kitchen and nibbled a dark chocolate brownie and made some popcorn snowballs for the kiddies coming to our solstice party.

still in awe? lol xoxo
