Ode to August
Wherein the cub passed his driving test. Every milestone is bittersweet and met with tears because his dad isn't here to see him succeed. He said that his driving teacher was the closest thing he's had to a dad in 4 years. I can understand how he feels, although I mostly feel numb....but my cub once said to me, "Mom, it's ok to let yourself be happy"...and so I repeat those words to him. He got his first real job working at a nearby roadside attraction. He said that it's a lot of fun.

The first photo was taken in the parking lot of Tandoor Palace in the Poconos. We were on our way back from visiting family for Xmas. The cub met his great grandfather Walt who was a conductor on the LIRR. On our way home we stopped here for delicious Indian food. The fact that it was a train car seemed so fitting. I took this photo of the cub pretending to drive before we went inside to eat. Now he's driving for real.
Meanwhile the hibiscus is blooming like mad. A hot air balloon flew right over the hospital campus, low enough to exchange "good mornings". I went out behind the Brain & Spine office to take photos before it landed across the street in the CVS parking lot.
There was a tornado warning wherein the clinic was closed and everyone sent home early.
