Unfurl My Heart
of dried weeds: yarrow, goldenrod, chicory,
the remains of summer. Praise the blue sky
that hasn't cracked yet. Praise the sun slipping down
behind the beechnuts, praise the quilt of leaves
that covers the grass: Scarlet Oak, Sweet Gum,
Sugar Maple. - Barbara Crooker
Bits of grass poking through a patchwork of snow and the scent of burning wood and Sugar Maple Sap...
soggy earth and buds hinting of Spring...
a stream awakening from a winter's nap...
a hill wishing to be rolled upon and mud looking for children to cling to...
and fallen branches posing as forts...
and a feather imitating sunshine tickled the heart of one who knows its secrets...
and later the sun came out to play as did our friends and there was a feast and a very long table.
Happy Valentine's Day!
