A Whispered Healing: Apple Pickin' 2010

It was what I was born for -
to look, to listen,
to lose myself
inside this soft world - Mary Oliver

I think we all needed this day...

the apple turnover right out of the oven
surrounded by such beauty
blue skies
cinnamon and sweetness
the sun, oh the sun

the way it sparked through the tree tops

the vinegary scent of the old fallen apples, an offering to the earth and to the bees

finding the perfect spot to lay our blanket

Tuscan white bean salad, apple-sage-grain sausage and a hunk of baggette

the three of us
lying there looking at the treetops

and this sky

and this face.

satchel is really, really looking like such a big boy. his face has wizened and there seems to be peace there i've never seen. i wonder if it is the effect of school on him? what a wonderful day in the apples it must have been...ahh.
